I’ve been thinking about finding a neat comment service provider for my blog for some time. First off, my criteria were: **syncing: comments **that I should be able to download comments to my database which is part of freedom, allows crawling of comments: comments are sometimes more important than blog post itself, they should appear on search engines and **layout.

A few months ago I tried out Facebook Comments Plugin. Everybody suddenly stopped commenting on my blog. My motive was to encourage everyone to comment (because >%90 of my audience already logged in with Facebook) and prevent anonymous trolls with that plugin. However Facebook couldn’t do the trick. There was no syncing, comments were out of search engines and I was not able to backup comments to my database. Layout is another issue, it just didn’t fit well to my design.

For several years I was hearing about DISQUS all the time but I always avoided using it due to my concerns. It was looking bad a few years ago but today I’ve seen that it is totally changed and it is a successful product. I integrated it very easily to Wordpress within a few steps. There’s sync (import/export) option, layout is pretty cool, works very well with Wordpress, spam detection and all sorts of features you’d ever need.

I also observed a few flaws that they may fix in the future: Initially I wanted to import all my Wordpress comments, however it does not happen immediately and takes a few hours. I believe they have bollocks to get this shit done much faster. Another issue is their layout is quite detailed. I’m a minimalistic guy so I’d love to see a compact version of comment box and stuff around it.
